her eyes were fire once,
burning through the shadows i cast,
but now,
they are ash.
 
she thought she could burn for both of us,
light the way out of the dark i carried,
but i was always
too far gone.
 
i leave her in pieces - 
her heart shattered
by hands meant only to break.
 
she’ll heal,
but i’ll never feel
her warmth again.
 
she will rise - 
reborn from the ruin i left.
but i,
i will rot
in the darkness
where her touch
can never find me again.
