there she stands,
a beautiful ruin in the dark—

face streaked with blood
that no one wiped clean,
tears that fell like rusted chains,
breaking on her skin.
 
but in her hand,
a single bulb glows,
soft and steady,
refusing to dim, refusing to bend,
 
and she realizes,
she is that light.

the darkness can claw, can cut, 
can crawl inside her,
but it will never own her glow.
